After having these rims kicking around for a personal project for months, I finally gave in and built them up for a customer than had been asking for something similar. Although having used my XCS carbon rims on several builds and being a big fan of them, he wanted something a tad more bling for a new Pinarello bike build. I suggested the Mavic Cosmic Pro SL’s laced to a set of DT Swiss 180 Carbon Ceramic hubs with CX-Ray spokes.
They weren’t the cheapest build, but they came out a lot lighter than the stock Mavic factory build. Needless to say Paul was very happy with them.
Magnus from Sweden wanted a fast set of tubeless road wheels with ceramic bearing hubs for his thru-axle Specialized Diverge Carbon Comp. After some suggestions he went with a set of DT Swiss 180 Carbon Ceramic laced to my XCS 38mm disc-specific tubeless / clincher rims laced 28/28 with Sapim CX-Ray spokes and brass nipples. Total weight came to 1563g.
Tony from London went for the top end DT Swiss hubset – the 180 Ceramic Carbon’s and had me build them to a set of my XCS 5060 carbon rims with the front being 50mm deep x 25 wide and rear 60mm deep and 25mm wide. The wheels were laced with Sapim CX-Ray spokes and brass nipples – radially on the front with 20 spokes and the rear 2X with 24 spokes. Total weight was 1635g
A couple of weeks ago I built a pretty sweet disc-brake wheelset for Mark in Sheffield. It was a pair of my XCS 38mm tubeless ready carbon rims laced to a set of DT Swiss 180 Carbon Ceramic hubs with thru-axle fitting that will be going on Mark’s Field Cycles custom-built frame. The wheels were laced up with Sapim CX-Ray spokes and brass nipples – 24/28 and 2X/3X. Total weight came in at 1591g.
